Findings of Interest
- Illinois has an extensive transportation
network. For the portion of the network
that the Department is responsible for, the
majority (87%) of infrastructure is rated as
being in acceptable condition.
- Demographic and transportation trends
indicate that:
- state residents will be older, and
the fastest growing segment will be in
rural areas, potentially increasing the
need for paratransit services;
- the Hispanic population will be the
fastest growing population segment;
- The State’s population will
increase, with most growth occurring in
the urban areas, potentially increasing
congestion even more in these areas;
- Funding for transportation will remain
limited, with new sources of funds needed to
replace current sources as well as to
provide additional money.
